Aion Private Shops: Is the End Near? 2
With the increased tension from all of the pre-order players, one of the main complaints that have reach the ears of NCSoft is that players are stuck in queue because others in game, going AFK while leaving their private shops open.
Private shops have a place in Aion, in my opinion. I like to directly interact with someone who is willing to buy from me, it adds a bit of salesmanship to the mix. However, the main problem is that people don’t get disconnected from being AFK while leaving their private shops open. To the shops defense, that makes perfect sense because it would be a bit stupid to set up a shop only to get disconnected 5 minutes later. The problem is that there are eager players that want to get in the game, that are stuck behind players leaving their shops open.
Over at AionSource, there is a very interesting thread going on about the impact of the private shops.

On Twitter, aion_liv had some input:
aion_livRT @aion_ayase Private shops is a topic here, not sure what we’ll do yet, but it’s being discussed.
It seems that NCSoft is keeping their ears open to the community.
Although the shops have been working very well in Asia, they don’t seem to have transitioned as well over in the West. What will happen to Aion private shops? Who knows. As I said, I rather enjoy them because of being able to deal with people personally, without the robotic feeling of using an auction house, but if removing private shops mean that more players are able to get in the game, I’m all for it.
Be sure to go over to AionSource to add your opinion in the mix, but be polite!

I definitely think that if private shops are going to adversely affect people’s ability to actually play the game, they should be abolished. I think that as a rule in games, players who are waiting to play should always have a higher priority than those who are in-game but AFK. I’ll definitely have to check out that post and see if anyone has come up with a novel solution that doesn’t involve either leaving the system alone or completely removing it.
Yeah, I completely agree.
It would take off a element of the game which is pretty fun under the right conditions. I find myself looking at private shops quite often because there’s the thrill of trying to find the better deal. There’s also the element where sometimes you may only find a particular item in a private shop compared to the auction house, the thrill of the hunt.
Yesterday I posted up next to a quest giver that needed Iron Ore and was able to sell all 10 pieces fairly quickly because you’re able to fill the demand. This would work great for other instances such as raids. If you knew there was going to be a big raid that night, posting up with items such as potions, food, and other items could really be beneficial to anyone that forgot something.
